Controversy
Okay. Social networking. Very big topic indeed. I sounds like online toy for most teenagers nowadays. But it's not. Even Suhaimi Sulaiman, Azli Paat and Reza Razali from Astro Awani also had a discussion about this. This is because the rate of expansion of social networking phenomena is so massive in a very short period of time. And A lot of people are making a lot of money from all these social networking site. But in this post, we are not going to discuss all those major "issue" about the social networking site. I just want to talk about the "issue" listed on the document which is sent to me by YouthSays.
Even though social networking is so sommon these days, there are still some people that doesn't understand what the word 'social networking' really means. If you are one of them, click play on the video below to know what is the word 'social networking' really means.
Like most of us already know, there are thousands or maybe millions of social networking sites that exist now. The famous one are Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Friendster, Blogger and Wordpress. YouthSays are one of them too actually. Me, my self personally use Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. But currently, there are a lot of bad news about Facebook nowadays. And from my point of view, Malaysian doesn't really quite aware of this. The first controversy caused by Facebook was about the privacy setting. I personally think that it isn't a problem at all. Just little small changes that was already exist for long time that people just only notice. But unfortunately, others really think this is a big problem. So, some of the start to quite Facebook.
But just 2 days ago, one more controversy involving Facebook Privacy issue raised. It's about selling identity. Earlier, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said that they are going to sell identity to company. May be for spamming. I don't know. But whatever it is for, I don't like it. You can't just sell people's identity to other company. For some reason, it is dangerous even though we are just nobody. I really hope that Facebook's CEO apologize to the world big time and cancel his plan.

Anyway, the medium of communication that I prefer is SMS, IM, cellphone, Facebook (sort of). Of course using cellphone consume money but my family use the 5+1 Celcom Family Pack. So, it's free to call my family! I love free things! IM s fine but not all the time because of the mobility and internet connection issue.
Social networking sites making my life better or worse? I wound say both better and worse. The worse part comes when I'm too busy with all these kind of thing. The better parts comes when these social networking sites makes me easier to learn something, widen my business wing, lot of possibilities unlocked and more interactive way of communicating with people all around the world.
List the number of online social networking sites that you join. Why? What activities you usually do on them? I was on Friendster but not now. I'm in Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, YouTube (since it integrate the social networking capabilities) and loads of forums. When in Facebook, I usually checks for friends updates (most of my friends call it stalks/stalker). In Twitter... erm... I don't know. I sign up for it because I was just curious. Hardly use it. Blogger to blog. I love to blog but sometimes, just don't have time for it. YouTube, I join it because I watched a lot of videos on it. YouTube also a site full of opportunities for people like me (video special effect and graphic designer).
On Facebook, I have almost 600 friends. But close friends, I think around 100 only. And on Twitter, 100, and close friends, 2. Haha. Many of them I've met before. Even not so close friends on Facebook and Twitter.
I Prefer to meet people for the first time face-to-face. Ya laa. I can observe their behavior, body language. More confident if met face-to-face. Especially when doing business. But I still have online business and met people online.
Yes. I do have Twitter. I don't really know much about my own Twitter account details. I don't really understand the concept of Twitter. Update your status using not mote than 150 characters? Whay is that? Can anybody tell me?
The Matrix
Today is an exciting day for me. Even though my graphic card is gone, I managed to do a few design and a few photomanipulation technique on several pictures that was captured years ago. It's a really slowww process without my graphic card, but I've done it. Now, waiting for my sister to come back ans ask her to buy a new one for me. Haha. Hopefully she will.

Anyway, lets get straight to the topic. For today's topic is Going Online. Yeah, interesting huh. Usually, my life start with me checking email. I got hundreds of email a day. So, to optimized my day, I only check the email which is important only. If I have something to do that day, I'll straight away close the email and go do what ever I have to do. If don't, I just messing around with my computer, design, or try to finish the unfinished project. I'm not a really big fan of Facebook. I normally just open Facebook twice a week. Unless something happened in Facebook or some opportunity rises. I like to do research or homework online. The main search engine that I'll use is of course Google and the other one is YouTube. For graphic design, I'll find the idea by going through all the artwork on DeviantArt.com. You should check it out sometimes. It is really nice especially if you are a graphic designer. Totally, I'll spend my time online or messing with computer stuff about 5-8 hours a day.
Of course we interact with people when we are online right. Unless you are a silent visitor who often follow others blog and not leaving any comment or rate it. For me, that kind of interaction is really important. It actually keeps the owner of the website filled with adrenaline to do the best on what he does best. It really is. I know laa, I used to have multiple website in a single time. For some people, they might say that it might be cool to use a nickname instead of real name to interact with people online. Yeah, it is. But for some reason, I'll use my own name for serious stuff like this one or any other serious project. For the fun2 part, I don;t really use my really name. Instead, I used WinGeek as my nickname in a chat room or something. And for some security reason, I don't use the P2P software for chatting or anything else. It will expose my computer to the public and I don't like it.
Anyone you met online become your good friend? Yeah, not all laa but some do. So of them are pretty famous in the online world like Andrew Kramer from VideoCopilot.net, FrediDew from YouTube, Chris from Geek.com. One German guy I met at Vimeo.com turn up to be my very good friend. We work together on a project for International Film Festival 2009. He did the audio and 3D part and I did the Special Effect and Design. The pitch actually come from him. He write everything and I helped him to make it reality. Its not easy to find people that you can truly trust online though. You must be very2 careful for that.
My parents monitor my access to the online world? Of course, they even know my email password. Sound awful to some of you right? Actually it's really not. It even makes my life easier. Especially when I'm traveling. You know what it's like to travel in Malaysia. It's very hard to find as internet connection. So, I just call my mother and ask her to check mu email. Last time, when I was in Kuala Terengganu, my plan was to go back to Sungai Petani. But when I called my mother, she told me that I have a call back in KL in a few days of time. So, canceled my plan to Sungai Petani, and straight to to KL. That saved me a couple of hundred ringgit. BTW, I still have the second email the my parents don't know. Haha.
Online world has made you disconnected from your real world friends? Not at all. Almost all my real world friends are also my online friends. They are all over the place. Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger. So, its not really a problem. We often go out together though, at least once a week. It truly not a problem. In some cases, the online world makes my life easier.

So, this what blogging is...
Youth and Me
Hello an Howdy. Dozens of question arrived today for the next few days in my Inbox. And I will answer it all. You know what it feels like. Like someone is doing interview with you. That facts is not. I'm am doing this all by my self alone on the desk on my free time with a thing called laptop. Anyway, lets get straightaway to the question.
What do I thinks about being Youth today?
Being raised in the modern, wealthy, not very healthy environment gives me a lot of though about being a Youth today. Modern invention makes me feels the world is a smaller place than it looks on the map. You know, big airplanes, Internet connections, On-line Banking. Easy/Able to do anything within my own house. Wealth gives me advantage on doing/learning what I'm passionate with. Not very healthy environment causes me suffer from Asthma when I was a kid. And now, my little brother suffer from it too.
In some kind of ways, we are very lucky and in some kind of other way, we are not so lucky. Its fine though. That's what give the different 'personality' from one generation to another.
The Future?
In terms of future, I personally think that it is not right to ask weather I think the future is bright or something to worry about. It actually depends on what we all do. To be exact, it depends on what the Youth do today, how hard they work, how they manage something, how they think about something. With all the gejala buang bayi, mat rempit, prostitution, and drugs, I would say the future is something to worry about. I know not all of the youth are bad but just look at the news. There are more bad news about youth the the good news. And sometime, no good news at all.
Youth Are Rebellious in Nature?
Are you sure? I don't think so. At something that they think is wrong, maybe. But rebellious in nature? Not really. From my experience, they are just following what youth from previous generation did like breaking the law. I always get it from my fiends, they said to me “ Tak remeja arr kalau tak buat benda ni”. That sentence actually encourage them to do more rebellious thing. They won't be a 'cool' person if they didn't do it.
But some of them, like I said earlier, being rebellious because they think they are on the right side. People should listen to these kind of people and maybe consider some of them. You know what I mean.
Easier or Harder Life Than Our Parents' Generation?
I got to say in someway it's a lot easier and someway it's harder. By easier what I mean is with the Technology that we have today helped us a lot in our daily day such as computer with Internet connections, made us easy to find any information that we want. Cars and public transportation helped us to go to one place to another.
What I mean by harder is the competition. Youth today need to work much-much harder in order to achieve their dreams. The competition is so tense nowadays. Even the straight A students also have to struggle.
What Is Your Biggest Fear In the World... Other than Death?
Erm... Honestly I say, I'm afraid if I didn't achieve my dream which is to be a Pilot. I don't know why. It's just my passion. I know I'm good at it because I am born to be one. You know, its hard to explain your passion in words.
What makes you happy?
Seriously? Want me to list it all? I bet it won't end. But I can assure you that the thing that makes me happy the most is of course makes my parent happy. Nothing can compare to that. Priceless. And the other thing, obviously being a Pilot! That's my life time dream! Unfortunately nobody can help me about that. I have to work on my self. You know the price...
What has been the most difficult hurdle you have overcome so far in your life? What did this experience teach you?
Erm... I'm not so sure about this. I probably won't tell you but I got to say, DON'T EVER TAKES SMALL THINGS LIGHTLY. Those small things can be the next big thing in your life. Takes every single thing in your life seriously. That's all.
Family or Friends? Why? Any Experience?
Wow. Never thought this kind of question will come. Can I choose both? Anybody going to say No? If you do, re-think about it. I'm the one who is writing here, I'm the one who control my life. Who are you to control mine? Hehe... Back to the question. I choose both. Without family, there is no Me. Without friends, there is.... erm.... Fill in the blanks_______. Did I have any experience choosing between these two? Yes. Which one did you choose? Both. Let me explain. That time I was involved in a trouble which I can't solved it by myself. Then, to solve it, I request help from my friends, and I request opinion from my family. Problem Solved.
